Celebrated by critics for their "youthful energy, seasoned experience, invigorating playing and soulful interpretations" the Vaughan String Quartet stands as a prominent chamber group in Canada.
The group has collaborated with institutions such as the Banff Centre for Performing Arts, Edmonton Recital Society, Edmonton Opera, New Music Edmonton, the Western Canadian Music Awards, PAMAR in New York, CMK, the St. Albert Chamber Music Recital Series.
Their recordings are frequently broadcasted by CBC Radio 2 and have been proposed by TV stations in Canada and Europe and on streaming platforms, reaching listeners far and wide.
Since 2013, the quartet members have been curators of concerts, drawing musicians from different corners of Canada and beyond. Their unwavering commitment to the arts has earned them numerous grants and accolades, including the Edmonton Arts Council’s Cultural Diversity Award in 2017, which culminated in the release of their debut album "Mosaico" through the Azul Music Label. The quartet participated in the 2015 Toronto Luminato Festival and in the performance Murray Schafer's “Apocalypsis”, a live recording by CBC which resulted in a CD release by Analekta in 2016.
The Vaughan Quartet repertoire spans from the early baroque era to newly commissioned works. Their collaborations with composers from across the globe has led them to premiere several new creations, which often integrate classical music with folkloric elements from the traditional music repertoire. Their 2023 “Curious and Cold” show pushed the group out of the conventional comfort zone of most quartets, in a performance where they appeared as musicians and actors at the same time.
The Vaughan String Quartet's commitment extends beyond the stage; their community engagement has been nothing short of inspirational. Regular performances in hospitals, senior centers, schools, and concerts tailored for individuals on the autism spectrum underscore their deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of music.
