Why it is a good idea to donate to the Vaughan String Quartet?
We are a non-profit organization that works on three main activities:
Concerts:
Enriching communities with live concerts with a special focus on underserved communities: performing activities can be carried out as formal concerts in churches and theatres but also as outreach shows in unconventional venues such as schools, hospitals, senior centres, First Nation communities. Examples of the music materials presented include, but are not limited to, classical music, baroque repertoire, contemporary music and works commissioned by the Vaughan String Quartet.
Job opportunities for artists:
Providing job opportunities for musicians, composers, visual artists, actors, writers to collaborate with the Vaughan String Quartet and engage in research, creation and performing activities. This includes commission of new music as well as concerts in collaborations with other musicians (with a special attention to emerging artists), which may result in live performance or video / audio recording.
Special attention is also given to collaborations with emerging composers from different parts of the world who defy the traditional form of classical music and include in their artistic vision elements from their own traditions. Since the Vaughan String Quartet expands its boundaries well beyond the mere music performance, such activities may include collaborations to create connection between classical music, electroacoustic, theatre, visual arts and artificial intelligence artistic production.
Education:
Education projects, to be presented in various ways such as – but not limited to – individual music lessons, chamber music courses, music appreciation classes, formal academic lectures or masterclasses in collaborations with colleges and universities. Those projects have a special attention in presenting music as way to foster inclusiveness, and to music as universal form of art beyond the boundaries of the western tradition.
